Hi,I did the following:

Question: Should I give this guy a refund after selling shoes to him on ebay?
I wore these nike soccer shoes once. They worked fine at my game. They were still in excellent condition after the game. They ended up being too big so I sold them on ebay. Guy emails me a week later says his son ripped through them already and wants a refund. Not sure what should happen at this point. I am thinking maybe to email and get a picture of the shoes so I can see what happened and that they didn’t take scissors or something to it. I’ve never had this happen to me on ebay before.
I do not have the receipt and did not list on ebay as “used as is”

The pictures have nothing to do with the content!!

Asking for a photo is a good idea.
Also, what was the shoes’ manufacturer? Maybe tell them to contact the manufacturer. If you have the original receipt send it to the buyer. Or go to the shop where you got them and ask them what happens in this case – maybe they can give you a refund and then get it from the manufacturer. If they say this is the case, then tell the buyer to send them back and give them the refund.
Otherwise, don’t. You don’t know how the shoes were treated and if you were honest in your initial item description, the fault lies with the manufacturers/ original sellers and not with you.
After all, the father admits that the son ripped the shoes so they were ok when you first sent them.

If he’s left you feedback already, screw him. But if he hasn’t and you care about the negative feedback, you don’t really have a choice but to give the refund.

Tell him to send them back to you so you can check your “ultraviolet mark”. You know, the one that you mark all of your merchandise with (wink, wink). If he is telling the truth he will have no problem with that. If he is trying to send you his son’s old shoes and keep your new ones he will probably be hesitant.
Sometimes people try to swap out their old, damaged items for newer things in better condition. That is why I suggest to you that you tell him that you somehow have your merchandise “marked”. This will give you a better feel for whether he is trying to scam you or not.
If, after this, you feel he is legitimately telling you the truth, you can always just have him send you a photo and you can go from there. I usually just give them a refund because they can become more trouble than they are worth. Believe me, some of these people will try anything to get something for free (including sending back an empty box with delivery confirmation). Fortunately, you don’t run into this type very often.
Good luck! I’m sorry this happened to you.
PS — Just an FYI — If he paid with paypal and he sends you back an empty box (or fills it with rocks) with delivery confirmation, they will give him a refund. Yep, they will take it right out of your acct. Make sure you have a record of the weight of the package you sent him so you can dispute it.
