Preparing to go to Bangladesh in a week, would enjoy if anybody can get me some answers for the following so I can budget my spending spree accordingly

1) Bottle of drinking water + juices like ribena (won’t be drinking coke there)
2) Food (regional food prices e.g. biryani & foreign food rates e.g pizza)
3) Men’s suits (full functions tailor created)
4) Women’s Burqah’s, Meski’s and Sarees
5) Significant, what I call “taliban” Shawls
6) Rates for DVDs and PS3 games (is it protected to get PS3 games to perform on European machines from there…?)
7) Prices for women’s jewellery (real points not “chemical” jewellery) and where to get them from (I’ll be in Sylhet largely and Dhaka for only a handful of days)
eight) Expense of Rikshaws and litus/vehicles/taxis
9) I want presents for men and women, so costs for things like handmade arts and crafts, paintings, branded clothes and so on

Mens suits appear expensive – is that price tag for really high quality stuff or just average good quality?
Due to the fact it performs out at about £50 which is what I can expect to pay here in the UK for average suits.

I live in Bangladesh and I can vouch that if you are obtaining USD or GBP then you would find that the rates are virtually half than what those items would expense you in your nation of residence now. Just to give a handful of notion (1USD = Taka 70 approx):

All I can feel following studying your question is that you are a bit worrying too significantly for the expenses. Moreover, value of anything depends on the Top quality and other parameters. There is a PL in Dhaka, but I’m no positive about any public libraries in Sylhet. Right here you can’t buy books from public-library. However, there are many commercial bookstores in and around New Marketplace and Shahbagh area. PS. Nilkhet book marketplace is renowned for second-hand books and magazines. All these are adjacent to Dhaka University
Rickshaw ride starts from Taka five/- for could be 200 meters distance. There is no standard as such, but we pay them anyway because these are individuals straight putting their muscles at perform for our comfort. At initial I was appalled to find folks pulling men and women when I came to BD back in 1973. Now I am acclimatised to this inhuman profession and pay them adequately or much more out of my guilt feeling.

Question–: Seniors, what out of organization shops in your place do you miss most?
I miss the great man who utilised to have a shoe repair shop….he could take the most ancient, battered, nicely-loved pair of shoes and make them look like new!
I also miss the tiny household company that utilised to repair toasters, irons, vacuum cleaners….and constantly seemed to have a vast quantity of old machines that they utilized for “parts” so you didn’t have to acquire a new component from a factory & wait for it forever.
Largely, I miss the little shop run by a extremely old Russian couple, who fled their country to locate peace in ours…and had a little deli where they daily lovingly handmade breads, soups…and other comfort foods that had been irresistable. The great old lady was forever employing small plastic spoons….and saying….here, try this!!

I will go back in time briefly right here … then bring it back about. As a child, we lived inside walking distance to every little thing from Post Workplace to church/school/butcher shop/bakery shop/ fish market place/bank/corner luncheonette/pharmacy, and so on. I cannot calculate how very a lot I miss that ability to WALK to the nearest retailer to run my everyday errands. Of course, I was just a young girl then… and into my early teen years, but there was nearly nothing at all a single could ‘need’ that wasn’t within a short walking reach.
In the town exactly where I reside right now… there is NONE of the above. We have gas stations… you know the type. The “convenience store ripoffs” … they are fine to gas up at, but Lord understands – don’t want a quart of milk or a band-help! They want your firstborn!
I miss a neighborhood establishment right here that only went below a couple of years ago… it was a crafter’s mall. A large constructing filled with li’l cubicles where local and not-so-neighborhood crafters could come and sell their wares… every thing from homemade candles and soaps to knitted and stitched goods, baby clothes all handmade, postcards, wooden crafts, you name it. It was my preferred location to turn to for gift getting. Usually exclusive items and usually something for absolutely everyone!
I feel the building’s owner lost his shirt at the regional casino. Oh. We have a casino nearby. Bleh.

We had a corner shop like a 5 and dime referred to as baldwins, run by two old maid sisters..followed you all over the place..too low cost to employ support a busy retailer would send them into a tizzy watching us and operating the register..but they had been sweet as could be and if they didnt have it, they tried to get..closed when sis #1 died 15 yrs ago.

National Lumber had a shop right here that closed about a year ago.I shopped there a lot and they were always busy but I guess not busy sufficient.They have another shop 30 miles away,but I’ve never been there.Absolutely everyone there was friendly and their prices had been great too.

Our hardware store closed final month so now if you will need some thing you have to make a 30 mile round trip. In a tiny town of 1500 that is not close to the interstate you don’t have considerably for organization anyway. I have lived in a city and I will nonetheless take rural living any day.

Hair cutting place,hardware store,video store,bowling alley,bank, Chinese restaurant,these solutions are now 60 miles away,that’s not to negative in summer time but winter makes for issues,the road goes more than a mountain.

I miss my hobby shop I usually venture to..it was referred to as Ben Franklin and just loved walking believed that store..these large chains just have so a lot junk and all these walking around to do just to discover 1 point..and you can never ever discover an employee for help either…=)

I miss my regional butcher and his wife, they ran a small family members business for years and when one of our bigger supermarkets moved in poor Mr and Mrs Butcher couldn’t compete.
They were exceptionally great tradespeople and I miss their good quality meat and time they took to give assistance on different cuts and so on.
In a nutshell they offered very good buyer service, how numerous times these days can we say that.
I suppose it’s a sign of the occasions but in this particular case alter isn’t usually for the much better.

,the oil shop,where you could buy 2 nails instead of a pack,paraffin oil for the lamps,have your wireless battery charged,paint mixed to any colour,screws,nuts and bolts, and like you we had a snobs (cobbler) who could mend shoes and bags,belts for a pittance. we never had toasters or vacuum cleaners for we did not have electricity in the house until about 1936,which my father paid in instalments and we never refrigeration until the late 50s.
There was an old-fashioned hardware/key shop in my city in the old downtown area that went out of business because the owner’s son who was took it over died at a younger age. That store made it possible to keep an old pressure cooker because they had all sorts of gaskets for them, any sort of beaters for electric mixers, cords that unplug from a hot pot or peculator, etc. They also had a great selection of hardware and items that farmers needed. I loved going there and looking around to see exactly what they had that I might need.
Another store here was an old-fashioned wood-floored department store. The store was divided in half, one half-was all new clothing, sort of expensive, western shirts, jeans, boots, belts, hats, etc. plus some regular fashion clothes. The other half was filled with close-outs from stores that went out of business, anything from clothes to tools and housewares. It was fun to go on a Saturday and spend time looking through their stuff. They got too much competition when the chain-western stores started moving into town.
The one place I really miss was a sewing and vacuum repair store. An older lady was great at fixing sewing machines and getting parts for any machine a person might be using. She knew exactly what the problem was and repaired it in a timely manner. Her sons took the business over, moved to a larger location, and apparently they would rather sell new sewing machines and vacuums rather than ordering parts and repairing the old ones we had. They ended up going out of business.
Before most of the grocery stores had large bakeries and delis inside of them there was a grocery store on Main Street that had both. The kitchen and bakery aromas were vented outside to the front parking area. By the time we got inside the door our mouths were watering. We always brought home something from the deli and bakery–barbecue beef tips, broasted chicken and potatoes, etc. They decided to expand and built a much larger store just a block down the same street and sold the same type of items. But the new store wasn’t vented the same way so there was no aromas to tempt the shoppers. They ended up going out of business and selling the new store because they couldn’t make the large payments.

The Oprey Mills Mall…since the May, 2010 floods in Nashville and surrounding areas the mall has yet to re-open due to insurance difficulties….not only do we miss the shopping and the restaurants but the Imax Theater….
The butcher shop in the town I grew up in…he had benches along the back wall that I used to sit upon while waiting for my mother or father to get their order, and I would draw designs in the sawdust on the floor with the toes of my shoes….watching the sides of beef and pork he would roll out ( like clothes on a revolving rack in the dry cleaners) fascinated me…
…and the hardware store my Dad used to patronize….the old wooden plank floors that creaked…how everything (nails, bolts, washers, etc) were loose and in endless bins….you loaded up your paper bag and then checked out with one of the owners…lol and I still love ‘window shopping’ in hardware stores…The Hubby thinks I’m nutz lol……
The ‘drug’ store my Mom patronized had a soda fountain…find one of those NOW…..
However I found a place to satisfy my need for nostalgia….we have a place called The Loveless Cafe….wonderful-check the website out. Their biscuits are almost as good as mine lol…..
There was a Long John Silver’s within a mile and a half. It had to close because it was on Walmart property and would not pay the exorbitant lease fees.
gosh we have so many come and go its weird watching it… id say camera shop .. we have to drive too far now to one….. and theres not really any hobby stores close by and there was shoe repair store too gone now walmart pushed everyone out.. its weird isnt it business up business gone like that its weird…….
Right at this moment…my neighborhood car wash. There used to be one two blocks away from, but it was torn down last year and a Taco Bell was built in it’s place. Now I have to drive two miles to the nearest one, and by the time I get home, the car is covered in salt dust again…
I miss independently owned drug stores, they had items that the big chain drug stores don’t. I also miss Old Country Buffet and the Silver Diner(a 50′s style restraunt, All-American food, 50′s music, even car hops on roller skates).
Where I live, they closed down a department store called “Mervyn’s”. Then there is “Circuit City” which had all the electronic gadgets and supplies you needed, like TV, stereo equipment, telephone items, etc…And a really good cafeteria called “Morrison’s”. I use to buy all my needlework supplies at a store called “Debbie’s”. I sure do miss these places.
I miss the fabric shop. I have to drive for almost an hour to get to the nearest one as Walmart ran out the Mom and Pop fabric store in my town.
