Q&A: Did Native American women obsess over mocassins the same way Euro,Afro, and Asian american women do shoes?
This shoe thing seems to be so pervasive and universal among women that I wonder if it is not a cultural thing but one of pure biology. Are there any historical accounts of women and their relationship to footware?
some of you ladies are just too much, here I am asking a legitimate question based on an honest personal observation….and I get the stereotype lecture, of course I understand there are always exceptions and some women don’t care about shoes, but some women are born with 11 fingers too, I mean it happens sure.

The pictures have nothing to do with the content!!

If you had to chew the leather and make the shoes yourself like the Native American women did, I would doubt it would be such a turn on!
However, I have seen some pretty fancy ceremonial dress moccasins on display at Native American museums, so somebody got into the shoe thing at some point in that culture!

Wait, am I suppose to like shoes?
Answer by Tashandra P
There are just as many men out there who like shoes. I’ve seen men have a pair of shoes for every day of the month/year. If I’m not mistaken most entertainers (males) have several hundred pairs of shoes. So it’s not just women who like shoes. And what’s the matter with liking shoes?
Answer by Bruce Aurora
BINGO!!!! women got a biological fixation about feet.

I dare you to ask this question in a Native American forum.

Yea… it’s got to be instinctual.
I look at my wife’s closet & it’s like she was stockpiling her own secret cache in case of a “shoe disaster” some time in the future.
5 pairs of the same black shoes with mild variance?
Sure, why not?
I have shoes to get the job done. Probably about 5 pairs. She easily has 10X that.
Go to the mall… how many “men’s only” shoe stores do you see?

No, it’s not pervasive. Not all women are into “footware.” And what is that, exactly? “Tupperware” for the feet?
Answer by bijou
men and women alike cherished their moccasins in many native peoples, devoting hours and hours to bead-work.
Answer by Johno
I don’t know! but “Tupperware for the feet” has got to be one of the funniest things I’ve heard all week, LMFAO.

Being a Woman, I think woman’s footwear
is about change. We like something
different, and footwear is one of the things
that’s always changing.
I think being able to have many different

It would be great to also be able to give
them shoes.

If you are truly curious about this subject, take a look at what I found just now while cruising for some history on the subject. It’s a very quick read and oddly rather interesting, all the way to the end:

Ask this question in the fashion forum if you want answers from people who think shoes are wonderful -this crowd is the least likely to be obsessed with the typical “feminine” stuff. The only thing I care about my shoes is if they fit. I wear burkies every day since my feet hurt like heck in pointy, tight shoes, and I don’t even want to think about what high heels do to my back. I know many women who’ve had foot surgery after wearing pointy high heels for years–fashion is ridiculous, if you see the true effects. Foot binding was fashionable too.
Well I can just prove against that…no, it’s not quite as pervasive as probably much of in shoe industry, entertainment industry, gender stereotypes would have people believe.
Honestly, I couldn’t care less where shoes are concerned. Not a handbag obsessive either.
These superficial, materialistic things just don’t appeal to me that much. I’m happy with using one purse until it wears out, and one pair of comfortable shoes… The only other shoes I own is a couple pairs of dressier shoes I’ve had for a few years, for the rare occasion I need to wear something other than sneakers.
