Question: Can boots be altered to become steel toed?
I am going to need some steel-toe boots for a job coming up; I have some sturdy boots but they are not steel-toe. To avoid the expense of buying a whole new pair of boots, I thought perhaps I could go to a shoe repair shop near my house. Would such a place be able to add adequate protection to my boots?

I suppose they probably could be but it would probably cost you 80 bucks. It is better to just go and buy a pair of steel toes.. That way they will fit properly.

Yes they can be modified. They manufacture an after market steel toe that can be used on regular street shoes. Try a company call Hy test that make steel toe shoes. If you cannot find that company try safety products.

The boss / insurance company may be fickle about it as well. Sure they’re now steel toe’d but they weren’t safety tested. Also work boots/shoes are usually electrically insulated. Regular shoes generally are not. If you’re doing electrical work, it’s safer to get a pair of govn’t certified safety boots.

I was going to say, it would probably be cheaper just to buy a pair already made that way.

You need to buy new boots. Don’t be ridiculous. The steel toe is manufactured in sizes that correspond to the boot sizes. Break down and buy new boots.
